Mr Adams has filled with great credit Mr Hulme's place since September last, and has, I believe, entirely gained the confidence of the profession and the public.

I have no hesitation, therefore, in giving my support to Mr Adams' application, and in stating to Your Grace that I think the selection of the gentleman for the office of Chief Justice of Hongkong would give general satisfaction.
